SF Walkabout
San Francisco has changed, they cry.
20 years ago I came to The City a suburban midwestern kid bee-lining to the coast after college. I don't imagine there was anything new in the marvelous way I wandered the city and discovered a place full of color and character that felt open to all dreamers. At that time I listened to the old hippies tell us how the magic was gone because we missed the 60's. I was sorry for that but I spent my own 20's helping define our x generation and our own extended adolescence of the 90's. Now I hear my generation bemoan that silicon valley wealth and rocketing real estate has bought out the soul of San Francisco.
I've been gone from the Bay Area for 3 years now so I took one whole day to walk across the city with my camera and see it again. Actually I didn't get even half way across the city because I was just far to enamored with what was immediately in front of me. I wasn't looking for what is gone, but here is what I found.
You can't step into the same river twice. Stay tuned for another Walkabout continuing on.
